Axtrinet Ethernet Packet Generators – Your perfect on-desk testing solution

Jan 13, 2017

Xentech Solutions Ltd, one of our design partners, has launched Axtrinet™, the Ethernet packet generator focusing on simplicity and back to basic engineering. Designed to meet the needs of ‘Ethernet everywhere’ and the infrastructure behind the Internet of Things, Axtrinet is well suited to Research & Development applications, test and manufacturing environments.

40 Gbps and 10 Gbps Ethernet packet generators / Analysers

With a simple to use GUI, easy set-up & use, and an open API for third party scripting, alongside it’s small form, it is ideal for the testing of Ethernet networking equipment, specialist monitoring devices and new high speed infrastructure equipment. From people looking to monitor the misra compliance of automotive software to those keeping an eye on network flow to and from a site, it is low cost compared to other solutions, allowing for multiple units to be deployed in a test environment – one per desk.

Each 10Gbps and 40Gbps interface supports optical and Direct Attach transceivers The 40Gbps QSFP+ interface can operate in 40Gbps or 4x10Gbps modes so a single APG208 can generate Ethernet test packets on 16x 10Gbps ports. Additionally the 10Gbps SFP+ interface can support 10GBase-T transceivers. (Available Q1’17)

Use cases

The traditionally high cost of 10Gbps and 40Gbps Ethernet test solutions meant that availability was restricted and often shared. Resourceful R&D engineers found alternative solutions, desperate for high speed data sources. Performance, flexibility and port density were usually compromised against cost.

Axtrinet™ APG Ethernet Packet Generators however are designed to solve this problem, offering the ‘lowest cost per gigabit’ wire rate 10Gbps and 40Gbps Ethernet test solutions in a compact, portable and quiet enclosure. An APG unit can be mounted horizontally or vertically to minimise footprint in busy laboratory environments. Up to 16x 10Gbps ports are available from the APG208, with the each 40Gbps port operating in 4x10Gbps mode. (Available Q1’17)

R&D Testing

The intuitive graphical Control Interface provides quick port and stream configuration capabilities with large control buttons for traffic start, stop, pause control and clear port transmit and receive packet, byte and error counters and rate statistics displays making it easy to configure for performance and throughput testing of networking equipment.

Soak & 4-Corner testing

The TCL API scripting interface for the Axtrinet™ APG Ethernet Packet Generators can be used to configure the unit, ports and streams; control the traffic generation; and read the port counters during long-term testing.

The port counters and statistics can be logged and processed at regular intervals to verify correct behaviour over the duration of the test.

Environmental & EMC Testing

The Axtrinet™ APG Ethernet Packet Generator can be used as a traffic source for the product under test located outside the test chamber. The graphical Control Interface or TCL API Interface can be used for configuration and control. Accordingly, if you are going to be using these kinds of technology on a regular basis, an understanding of Dell PowerEdge Servers can prove to be beneficial. Correspondingly, you can learn more about EMC certifications such as dea-41t1 by doing some further research online.

Support engineers

The compact size of the Axtrinet™ APG Ethernet Packet Generator offers an ideal solution to enable field issues to be diagnosed at a customer’s site; as well as in the laboratory without compromising performance, flexibility or port density.

The easy to use graphical Control Interface provides quick port and stream configuration capabilities, with large control buttons; and clear port transmit and receive packet, byte and error counters and statistics displays aiding fast diagnosis of problems with equipment.
