Advanced Thermal Solutions, Inc. (ATS) now provides a family of high performance heat sinks for cooling DC-DC power converters and power modules. The power brick heat sinks are available for full, half, quarter and one-eighth brick sizes.

There are many advantages to using a DC-DC power converter over a discrete design.  These advantages include:

  • Multiple options for a very wide variety of applications without the need of in-depth power supply knowledge for the design
  • Many of the options adhere to the Distributed Power Open Standards Alliance, insuring that products specifications are standardized in the industry so designers can know component footprints and other characteristics to to connect the DC-DC converter to the rest of the circuit

With proper thermal management, brick DC-DC isolated power converters, such as those from CUI,  can be used at their maximum operating temperature for optimum use on PCBs.  That’s where ATS’s power brick heat sinks come in.

ATS’s power brick heat sinks feature the ATS patented maxiFLOW™ spread fin heat sink design which maximizes cooling performance in low airflow environments. maxiFLOW heat sinks reduce junction temperatures (Tj) by more than 20%. The spread fin pattern reduces pressure drop on passing air and provides more surface area for heat spreading and convection cooling.

The anodized, brick DC-DC heat sinks are provided with Philips head screw sets in five, six and eight mm lengths. They are shipped pre-assembled with a high-performance, phase change, thermal interface material (TIM).  Fused model mechanical drawings are also available.
